CeMAT 2008: Vitronic to Showcase Products at Logistics Fair
Vitronic, leading supplier of camera systems for warehousing and logistics, will exhibit at CeMAT, the interlogistics trade fair in Hanover, Germany (May 27-31 2008). On show will be VIPAC, a camera based parcel recognition system that operates over high-speed conveyors and sorters. VIPAC uses optical character recognition (OCR) techniques to identify sort codes, human written address information and supplier numbers. This helps users achieve read rates approaching 100%, improving handling efficiency and increasing throughput.
Malcolm Smith, Vitronic’s UK Sales Manager, sees the CeMAT exhibition as an opportunity to attract new customers; “CeMAT has an excellent international reputation. It draws tens of thousands of visitors each year from all over the world and produces valuable sales leads. Vitronic will be at stand G51 in hall 27 at CeMAT 2008. Experienced professionals will be at hand to handle inquiries.”
VIPAC is a modular system and Vitronic will exhibit three of its components at CeMAT.
VICAM-ssi2
VICAM-ssi2, the camera unit, features an optional mini PC, which allows it to carry out straightforward identification tasks as a standalone system. VICAM-ssi2 captures clear, high-resolution images, enabling VIPAC’s OCR software to locate labels, codes and addresses (regions of interest) immediately. For the first time this technology allows characters and barcodes to be read at speeds of up to 4.5 m/s. VICAM-ssi2 has low power requirements, reducing energy bills.
Volumec
Volumec is VIPAC’s optional volume measurement system. An ingenious device, it is the first product of its kind to be certified for use over sorters. This means a single unit will serve multiple induct conveyors, bringing significant cost savings and simplifying maintenance. Volumec uses lasers to measure parcels’ height, width and length. It calculates the volume of each item and the smallest cube that will enclose it. This data is used to automate invoicing and utilise transit space in vehicles.
VICAM-mobile
VICAM-mobile is a portable handheld camera scanner used to scan labels on parcels and pallets in goods-in and goods-out areas. It is compact, cost-effective and ideal for use with goods that are normally difficult to process (e.g. irregularly shaped packages). Compatible with VIPAC, VICAM-mobile weighs just 800g and has ergonomic controls, meaning operators can work longer and more efficiently.
