Traditional systems that use lasers to read barcodes are fraught with problems. Damaged, dirty or poor labels are frequently misread, which leads to parcels having to be rescanned. Laser scanners also contain components, which are easily damaged in an industrial environment. These two issues can incur enormous costs for a busy warehouse. The VICAM handheld scanner from Vitronic solves these problems.
The handheld VICAM is ergonomically designed to be light and comfortable to hold. It incorporates sophisticated camera technology, which operates up to 20 times faster than laser, speeding up parcel sorting and reducing costs. It also introduces optical character recognition, which allows it to read data such as the delivery address as well as barcodes. This is used in the parcel tracking system and has been proven to reduce the amount of manual intervention required.
The VICAM also features auto-focusing and a high resolution of 200dpi. This means a highly detailed, photographic image of a label can be automatically captured, stored and processed extremely quickly. This true photographic image ability allows VICAM to read even the poorest quality labels. This is all achieved while still maintaining the convenience and portability of a handheld scanner.
