Caljan Rite-Hite's Safe Loading Products Impress Office Depot
Caljan Rite-Hite, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of loading bay safety solutions, has supplied Office Depot with four belt-driven SafeTrack telescopic boom conveyors. The busy office supply company is constantly growing and recently opened new delivery routes to meet increasing customer demand. The new equipment helps Office Depot’s London distribution centre deal with over 10,000 daily orders.

Founded in 1986, Office Depot is the world’s largest seller of office products and the industry leader. Products are supplied to businesses and individuals throughout the UK. It has four depots in the UK and owns Viking Direct, the well-known office product supplier.
At a loading bay, telescopic boom conveyors extend into the vehicle trailer, facilitating swift loading and unloading. SafeTrack has a unique safety feature, a system of cover plates that guard the underside of the machine. This prevents worker’s fingers and clothes being trapped in the mechanism. Office Depot has over 150 employees at its London site and safety is a top priority.
Office Depot required its new conveyors to serve multiple loading bays. Accommodating its customers as usual, Caljan Rite-Hite fitted slew bearings to the SafeTrack equipment. These allow the boom to move on semi-circular tracks in the floor and pivot to allow the loading of pallets by fork truck when required. This flexibility improves productivity at Office Depot’s London warehouse.
SafeTrack extends to 12.3 metres, has a load capacity of 50kg per linear metre, and comes with the option of a 600mm or 800mm belt. This allows it to reach into long trailers and handle heavy/awkward packages. As Office Depot sends out parcels of all shapes and sizes, this is highly advantageous. A user-friendly joystick enables precise control of the boom’s elevation and horizontal position. This sensitive system gives the operator precise control. Push buttons control SafeTrack’s activation and belt direction.
