Knauf Turns To Caljan Rite-Hite For Safe Loading Products
Knauf Insulation is the UK’s leading manufacturer of insulation solutions. It’s headquarters in St Helen’s, Merseyside, has had two different safety solutions supplied by loading dock safety experts, Caljan Rite-Hite.
The company, which produces materials for thermal insulation, fire protection and ventilation, has invested in a Global Wheel Lok (GWL) and a Safe T Lip Leveller. Both these products improve safety and efficiency in a warehouse environment.
The GWL is a wheel restraint, which prevents the dangers of unplanned vehicle departure. It secures trailers with the rear axle up to 4m from the back of the trailer, and with tyres up to 1.12m in diameter. Trucks are loaded/unloaded whilst securely locked in place, and when finished, the restraint is unlocked, allowing the vehicle to move off safely.
The Safe T Lip Leveller helps prevent accidents at loading docks. It provides a solid barrier to prevent forklift trucks or goods from dropping or rolling off the edge of an open dock. The design and installation of the leveller for this application was “a challenge” commented Martin Wright, Sales Manager for Caljan Rite Hite’s dock products.
He explained: “The dock had a very low height of just 700mm yet was required to service vehicles up to 1600mm. We overcame this by increasing the dock height using long steel ramps, and maintained a gradient of less than the recommended European standard of 12.5%. We also had specially designed handrails made to cater for regular width loads and for loads wider than the leveller platform.”
Martin continued, “Knauf Insulation really bought into the safety aspect of the loading bay design. This can easily be overlooked when the design is left up to a second or third party specifier. We worked closely with Knauf engineers to ensure that what we provided was the best and safest solution for them".
