Track To The Future
Discrepancies surrounding the weight and volume of parcels can result in serious financial losses for parcel handling companies. Caljan Rite-Hite has come up with a positive solution, known as Cap Track, which is currently in operation at Parcelforce Worldwide.
The Cap Track range of products is a modular Data Capture System for the scanning of barcodes, measuring weight and volume and documenting parcels for the reduction of errors and the correct invoicing of parcel shipments. Incoming parcels are weighed and measured, and a destination code and parcel ID is captured. This information is stored and used to correctly invoice the parcels.
The standard machine is a 2 belt unit which can be extended using additional conveyor lengths at the infeed and outfeed ends. Parcel throughput figures range from 800 parcels an hour to 3500 parcels an hour based on the conveyor configuration. The machine can be supplied as a workstation requiring some operator intervention such as hand scanning of barcodes/ entering of data, or as a fully automatic machine with full parcel registration done “on the fly”.
Parcelforce Worldwide has invested in weighing and voluming equipment from the Cap Track range, used primarily for weighing and documenting loads for aircraft. The equipment scans the parcels and collates the data, which is then stored on a specially designed web page. Interactive tracking of the customers’ parcels is available online, so the customer can see where their parcel is at any stage of the process, by simply typing in the parcel barcode.
