London's Harmsworth Quays Printing Limited were one company to benefit recently from Caljan's expertise.
With quality newspaper titles in their portfolio including The Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, Metro and The Evening Standard, Harmsworth Quays Printing endeavour to maintain a professional quality throughout all their operations and over the last couple of years have undertaken a major refurbishment programme.
Printing presses and a publishing system including the latest stackers and tilt tray sorters were amongst the new installations and, after such a heavy investment, the company were looking for the most cost-effective way of up-grading the telescopic conveyors which feed the dispatch doors.
The solution to the problem was a consultation with Caljan, who recommended a comprehensive refurbishment package to replace all mechanical and electrical components, which would also ensure that the machines complied with new Health and Safety requirements.
Neil Smith, Project Managing for Harmsworth Quays Printing, commented: "Caljan originally supplied the 16 off-vehicle loaders in 1988 and so they were the obvious choice as our preferred supplier on this project. They had access to original documentation, their engineers are fully skilled with intimate knowledge of telescopic conveyors and they also included a full year's parts and labour warranty."
As the 16 off-vehicle loaders are used to load small cargo vehicles with newspapers for delivery to retail outlets in and around the London area, all the refurbishment work was carried out with the machines in situ to ensure the minimum amount of disruption to the dispatch procedure.
Neil continued: "Caljan worked with us to make sure that we were without the loaders for the shortest possible time and ensured that the project also met our budget guidelines."
