Arca’s Got The Cream!
The transportation of perishable goods can be a tricky business and recent problems faced by Nene Valley Foods have resulted in lost profits as well as spilt milk! But thanks to Arca’s Combo plastic reusable IBC, not any more.
Nene Valley Foods are the largest producer of dairy products such as milk, cream, yoghurt and fromage frais for supplying in bulk to major branded and own-label food manufacturers and transport their products over large distances throughout the country.
Traditionally, metal ‘bag in box’ containers with water-tight lining were rented for this purpose. However, as well as being susceptible to rust, the ridged nature of the structure meant that they were prone to sharp edges forming if accidentally knocked. This often resulted in the puncturing of the plastic liner and leakage of the contents and also created a potential health and safety concern.
With each container holding 1 ton, that’s a lot of money to literally be pouring down the drain - a problem that was costing Nene Valley Foods significant sums of money each week.
But the Arca’s Combo plastic reusable IBC is changing all that. The plastic construction of the container means that any impact experienced is absorbed and the contents protected. Since October, when Nene Valley Foods purchased their first Combos, the incidents of leakage have been reduced by 50%.
Operating in a competitive market place, Nene Valley Foods saw the considerable cost savings associated with owning their fleet of containers compared to the more traditional method of renting. Understandably they are very happy with the results as Nigel Chapman, Managing Director, explains: “We have been delighted with both the service from Arca and the positive impact the Combo boxes have had on our business. They have really given us the competitive edge in our sector and we would highly recommend them.”
The plastic construction of the Combo has also brought additional benefits to the company. Being lighter than its metal counterpart the containers are easier to load and unload and are consequently better from a health and safety perspective. Nene Valley Foods also consider them to be far more aesthetic and have branded with the company’s logo using Arca’s in-house screen printing service. Good news all round.
